Baseball Player. A pitching ace for the Philadelphia Stars Negro Leagues. He was one of the five surviving members of the Philadelphia Stars and also on the Board of Directors of the Negro League Players Association. He joined the Philadelphia Stars in 1945 and made a very successful debut besting the famed pitcher Satchel Paige and the Kansas City Monarchs 3-1 on a two hitter in front of 40,000 fans in Yankee Stadium that catapulted him to a 15-5 record that year. One of his greatest moments came in 1946 in a game against the Newark (NJ) Eagles at Shibe Park when the bases were loaded with no outs and proceeded to strikeout Larry Doby, Monte Pearson and Monty Irvin who at the time were three of the Negro Leagues top hitters. After an all-star season in 1951, 1952 would be his last with the Negro League and the Philadelphia Stars. He played a total of eight season, compiling 120 wins and 45 losses, a career that today would make him a superstar pitcher. It was said by one of his colleagues that he had one of the best curve balls he had ever seen.
