At the age of 19 enlisted into Co. F of the 153rd New York Infantry to serve three years. Mustered in as a private on 2 September 1862. Promoted to corporal on 17 October 1862. Attained the rank of Sgt. on 15 March 1863. Returned to the ranks on 24 July 1863. Survived the war and mustered out with his company in Savannah, Georgia on 2 October 1865.
