William Jay "Bill" Scheidegger, 80, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
He was born January 22, 1932 in Holton, the 13th child of George and Carrie Boop Scheidegger.
He grew up in Holton and attended Holton Schools, graduating from Holton High School in 1950.
Bill served his country as a US Marine during the Korean War and served his community as a member of the Topeka Fire Department for 22 years before retiring at the rank of Battalion Chief in 1981. After retirement from the TFD, he was employed by Roach Hardware for 13 years, retiring in 1995. He was a life member of the Association of Firefighters Local 83 and a life member of the American Legion Capitol Post No. 1.
Bill married Peggy Bowser, the love of his life, on February 23, 1951 in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include 3 sons, Mike, Gary (Janet) and Jeff (Tracye), 3 grandchildren, Matt, Alex and Bailey, 3 step-grandchildren, Janelle Wheeler, Erica Conaway and Hayden Wheeler, one brother, Charles and one sister, Dola Curtis and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Thursday. Private inurnment will take place in Holton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the organization of the donor's choice.
