Died in Santa Rosa, CA on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the age of 87. He was born in Pasadena, CA the oldest of four boys (Raymond, Hal and Donald) whose parents were Jessa and Margery Abbott.

He was the loving husband for over 63 years of Marie Moffitt Abbott, originally from Ashtabula County, OH, and the loving father of Richard "Rick" Abbott and his wife Sharon of Santa Rosa, CA, Sherryl "Sherry" (Abbott) Sanders and her husband Kent of Reno, NV, and Bruce Abbott and his wife Jane of Santa Monica, CA. He was the beloved grandfather of Nick and Ashley Abbott, Ryan, Geoffrey and Kendra Sanders, step-grandson Ted Tao and great-grandson Sammy Abbott. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Josephine (Jo Abbott) Fulton and Kathryn (Kay) Abbott and cousin Elsa Ann Abbott.

He lived the greater parts of his life in Pasadena and Santa Monica, CA and Bend, OR. A veteran of World War II, US Army Air Corps, he flew 33 combat missions as a B-17 pilot in the European Theatre.

Important in his life were family gatherings, baseball, fishing, camping and hiking in the great outdoors. He was respected for his honesty, integrity, and strength of moral character.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa. Private inurnment.
