Name spelled various ways in documents; William Gabel, Wm. P. Gable, W. P. Gable (Gabrell), William P. Gabel, and Phillip Gable.
Served in the 14th Miss. inf. co. A, the 46th Miss. inf. co. F, and Gen. Braggs' sappers and miners of the CSA.
Last entry on muster roll, "sent to hospital in Atlanta Dec 5, 1863." William died shortly thereafter of wounds or illness.
Family oral tradition states that Martha traveled to retrieve Williams body and either enroute or soon after returning, she also died. They were buried in the cemetery at Gum Log Primitive Baptist Church in unmarked graves.
William & Martha farmed 40 acres; they owned NO slaves.
Their orphaned children were raised by Martha's father and her siblings.
