Melvin Deloss "Red" Stinnett passed away quietly in his sleep at the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center at 10:30 p.m. Nov. 2, 2012.

Melvin and wife Bettye fell in love with the Buena Vista area when they visited here on their honeymoon in 1950. They moved to Buena Vista in 1961 and have raised six sons here.

Melvin was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Curtis, Oklahoma.

He held multiple jobs in the Oklahoma/Texas Panhandle areas, beginning his professional career at the age of 14.

He had to quit school and support the family because his father had died from receiving mustard gas in the War.

Red had a can-do attitude and never was heard to say, "I don't know how to do that." He and his family built their own 5 bedroom home in Buena Vista with Red's direction..

Red was considered a master welder at his job at Climax, where he retired from in 1981.

Melvin and Bettye raised six boys, who are also proud of their individual abilities. Red and Bettye spent many years taking photographs, camping, hunting big game and fishing together.
