He farmed most of his life before moving to Sumter in the 1940's. He loved the Word of God, especially the Gospel of Luke from which his favorite verses were taken.
Tall and lean with beautiful white hair, he could be seen sitting on the front porch in his favorite rocker, quietly smoking his pipe. He loved to walk and did so until his health failed late into his 80's. He died in his 91st (94th) year of life. Although his headstone shows his date of birth as 1871, a family Bible provided an earlier birth - April 14, 1868 in Privateer Township, Sumter County, SC.
He was the brother of James Henry "Bud"; Priscilla who died prior to 1900 (Probably buried at Weeks) and Annie Gertrude Ardis Griffin.
