Clara McKim was the daughter of William H. Carney and Ida Mills. Her mother died shortly after she was born. Her father died when she was about aged ten and she was placed in an orphanage in Springfield, MO. where she became the foster daughter of the Carnegy family. Clara had one foster sister that I knew of named Buelah (Carnegy) Coffin (memorial # 32151709) and they kept in touch by letters until my grandmother passed away.

Clara was neighbors to the McKim family in Springfield, MO. and she married Roy Preston McKim on March 19, 1921 in Bolivar, Polk Co., MO. Roy was the eldest son of Alfred Hiram McKim and Cora Ellen Fullerton. To this union eleven children were born; Juanita Pauline, William Robert, Jack Roy, Edward Eugene, Franklin Dale (d. in childhood), Alfred Kenneth, Leonard Preston (d. as an infant) Pearl Caroline, Ruth Mary, Donna Karen, and Diane Carol.

Clara came to Blackberry, MN. with her husband in 1936 and together they built their family home and farm. Clara worked hard all her life taking care of others, raising her large family, caring for her grandchildren, working the family farm, and as a housewife. She never complained and was a woman strong in character. She remained living on the McKim family farm until her death.

Clara was my dear maternal grandmother and I loved her so much. The things that will always remind me of my grandmother are Siamese cats, "Hee Haw', homemade blueberry icecream, rhubarb pies, flapjacks with chili, fresh shelled peas, knitted and crochet afghans, old wringer washing machines, clothes drying on the clothesline in the afternoon sunshine, and pansies because my grandmother had a little wooden boat at the side of her yard where she grew pansies and Johnnie Jump-ups. I will never forget how my grandmother used to let me style her hair in the evenings while she sat in her chair and watched TV. This is a tradition I've carried on with my own daughter.

Clara is buried beside her husband and sons Franklin and Edward.
