Evelyn was the third child of Andrej Stefan and Mary Fillo of McKeesport. In July of 1937 when she was 7 years old, Evelyn was struck by an automobile on White Street in McKeesport, but she made a full recovery. Evelyn graduated from McKeesport High School, class of 1948. After high school, she worked for the (defunct) Vienna Baking Company in Mckeesport where she met her future husband, George Gilmore. They were wed on December 31, 1949 and resided in Boston, Pa where they raised a family of two daughters and two sons. Evelyn was a good cook preparing much of the Slovak cuisine that she grew up with. Evelyn was bilingual using Slovak when she conversed with her siblings on the phone. She was a lifelong resident of Boston, PA and was a member of St. Martin de Porres Parish in McKeesport and an avid member of the White Oak Seniors.
