Maynard was one of seven children of John and Clara (Nasman) Colebank. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in the South Pacific Theater of Occupation. He married Stella D. McDonald of Farmington, MN, on August 16, 1944, and they had one daughter, Laurie.

Although Maynard never finished high school due to illness and having to work on his parents' farm, he was a very talented man. He could make something from nothing with his carpentry skills, had a talent for growing things, and a love of animals. He could fix anything you brought his way. He was an unassuming, quiet and honorable man with a very dry sense of humor, once described as being "steady as the wheat." He drove truck for Mid America Dairymen for 38 years, during which he served as a union steward for his Teamsters local. A hard-worker all his life, he was a fair and honest man -- his word was his bond. I am so very proud to have called him Dad.
