On 31 Dec 1943 Stuart was pilot of B-17 42-29895 "The Black Swan".

Flak KO'd engine #3, then hit by ground fire as they were limping home, crossing low over the Brest peninsula. Crashed Kerancreach, 8 km SW of Bannalec, 40 miles NW of Lorient, France.
