Daughter of Slave Owner Thomas Smith who gave Elizabeth and the Reverend two slaves: "Deaf Jenny" and another young boy. In addition, upon the death of Thomas Smith, Elizabeth inherited more slaves.

Elizabeth died after a long illness and Philip Gatch never remarried. In total the couple had 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls:
