Rene Marion Pittman served in the 7th State Guard Infantry Regiment of Georgia, and enlisted as a Sargent in Company K at the age of 49 years on May 31, 1961. (documented in US Civil War Records and Profiles) His son George Washington Pittman, also enlisted in the Confederacy with Company B 7th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry in June 1861 at the age of 18 years. (documented in US Civil War Records and Profiles and The Texas State Cemetery Confederate Veterans on George W. Pittman's Family Tree page).

While there is not a detailed record of Rene Marion Pittman's battlefield experiences or commanding officers, there is of his son George W. Pittman, and although they served in different companys, they were both in the 7th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers.
