Gavin Carl Roskamp, 16, of Sutter, IL, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011, in Carthage, IL as the result of an automobile accident. He was born on February 25, 1995, in Quincy, IL, a son of Max L. and Debra Marie Casady Roskamp of Sutter, IL.

In addition to his parents, Gavin is survived by two brothers: John Austin Roskamp and Justin Luke Roskamp, both at home in Sutter; paternal grandmother: Elma E. Brackensick Roskamp of Sutter, IL; maternal grandparents: J. Ned and Carol Casady of Warsaw, IL and Jim and Margaret Johnson Dennis of Warsaw, IL; aunts and uncles: Bruce and Jane Roskamp of Sutter, IL, who were his Godparents, Gordon Roskamp of Macomb, IL, Donald and Shirley Roskamp of Sutter, IL, Bill and Barb Casady of Warsaw, IL, who were his Godparents, Paul and Debra Casady of Warsaw, IL and Ariel and Andy Bennedict of Wayland, MO; a special Uncle and Aunt, Larry and Barb Stoll of Quincy, IL; a special Aunt, Brenda Reiter of Quincy, IL; many cousins and many step aunts and uncles. Gavin was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Carl Roskamp.

He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany United Church of Christ in Tioga, IL where he was active and serving as secretary for the Youth Fellowship. Gavin had finished his sophomore year at Warsaw High School where he was a 4.0 student. He was very active in the performing arts and excelled musically. He sang, played the piano and trombone. Gavin was a member of Early Bird Chorus and had accompanied the group. He was selected for IMEA (Illinois Music Educator's Association) District IV Chorus for seven years. Gavin was also a member of Warsaw High School Band and Warsaw High School 1A Jazz Band. At Solo and Ensemble Contest, he recently had received five Superior Awards in vocal and instrumental, which, combined with the large group band contest superior rating, contributed toward WHS Bands being in the State Elite 8. In 2010, he played first chair trombone in the State FFA Band, and was selected again for the upcoming 2011 convention. He was selected to WCC (West Central Conference) Honor Band both years in high school. He also played 1st chair in Nauvoo Community Band in Nauvoo, IL. Gavin was musically gifted and could play anything by ear. Since kindergarden, Gavin performed in Warsaw High School and Nauvoo-Colusa Jr. High musicals, playing a lead role his freshman year, and recently was an accompanist for the Warsaw High School musical. He was a member of the WHS Quiz Bowl Team for two years. When Gavin was 12, he toured Australia with People to People Student Ambassador Program. When he returned from the trip, he shared his experience with church and civic organizations by showing power-point programs. Gavin was serving on Teen Court through the Hancock County Courthouse, and was on his way to serve in this capacity at the time of the accident. Gavin's main hobby was working with computers. He was able to fix nearly any computer problem and offered his expertise to many others. He had planned on majoring in Computer Science at Western Illinois University after high school graduation. Gavin was quiet, fun-loving, and outgoing. He had a big heart and enjoyed a large group of friends. Gavin lived every day to the fullest and had experienced a wonderful life in his 16 years. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 10, 2011 after 12:00 noon, with the family meeting friends between 3:00 and 7:00 PM at Warsaw High School. A Funeral Service will Follow at 7:00 P.M. at the Warsaw High School gym with Pastor Joel Schlatter and the Rev.'s Del Piercy and Darwin Smith of Bethany UCC Tioga, and Rev. Sue Loper of Carthage and Warsaw Presbyterian Churches, officiating. A Private Family Service will be held Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Bethany United Church of Christ in Tioga. Burial will be in Bethany United Church of Christ Cemetery, Tioga.
