"Mary E. Rains, 95, of Danville, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 20, 1993) at USMC, Sager Campus. She was born September 16, 1897, in Fairmount, the daughter of John A. and Laura B. See Schuman. She married J. Matson Rains September 24, 1919 in Danville. He died in 1968.

Surviving: one son, John A Rains of Danville; nieces and nephews, Dorothy Sager, Velma Oglesby, Eileen Walderon, Franklin Schuman, Joe W. Schuman, Richard Schuman, Joe Clutter, Bill Clutter, Dorothy Smith, Jeanette Bray, and Gene Miller. She was preceded by her parents, one daughter, Virginia, and four brothers.

She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Danville Chapter #854 OES, and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed her family and the church.

Services: 9:30 a.m. Friday at Pape Memorial Home & Gardens; Officiating: Rev. C. Don Ferrill; Burial: Spring Hill Cemetery; Visitation: 2-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Eastern Star services at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church."
