Jenn's birth name was Flora Jane MacKenzie. She was also knows as Jennie. She was the daughter of Murdock MacKenzie and his wife Margaret Calderwood. Her siblings included: Sarah, Charlie, Peter, Mary, Margaret, Maggie, David, Pearl and Tennie. Both Jenn's mother and Grandmother had died in childbirth.

Jenn was a school teacher as was her sister Pearl and Mary.Jenn had taught at the Mara School from October 1st 1901 until December 31, 1912. Jenn also taught there again from September 1950 until June of 1951. She would also teach in Orillia.

Jenn married John George Elder (he went by George) on February 11th of 1920 at the Fairvalley Church. In June of 1924 Jenn and George adopted a beautiful little 2 year old girl, my mother. Mom had just arrived in Canada from the Kington Union Workhouse in England. She had been placed for adoption along with her 3 of her siblings. Unable to find homes for 2 other boys her biological mother took these children with her and went out to the west coast of Canada.

Jenn would remain in touch with Mom's biological mother. Over the years she had sent her many photos and such. One of the most remarkable things Jenn did for the biological family is she many time put together care packages full of clothing and other essentials and sent them out west to the family. Jenn and George were very kind hearted and caring people. My Mother was treated very well, loved and educated.
