Plane Explosion Kills Carl Dumler

Carl Dumler, 38, a native of Russell, was one of nine men killed when a Navy plane exploded near Corpus Christi, Texas, yesterday.

Dumler who had spent 17 years in the Navy and planned to retire in three more years, held the rank of chief aviation metal smith. He was stationed in San Diego.

Funeral services are pending. Burial will be at San Diego, where he had lived for some time.

The Navy P5M seaplane blew up in the air and the plane crashed and exploded. A Navy spokesman said Dumler was one of nine killed.

The victim's father, Robert A. Dumler, Rte. 1, Russell, was notified of his son's death late yesterday.

The victim attended the Russell schools before entering service.

Mr. and Mrs. Dumler plan to leave tonight for San Diego to attend the funeral.
