The son of James Fleming & Mary Polly Ross, Ezekiel Alexander Fleming married Martha Ann Leonard October 8, 1850 in Johnson County, Arkansas. They soon moved to Oak Cliff, Dallas County, Texas were their son Samuel was said to be the first white baby in the county. Indian attacks had become pretty regular so they decided to move to Callahan City, Callahan County, Texas. Ezekiel had traded his little farm and a cobbler shop in Oak Cliff for teams and wagons. He made and repaired boots and shoes for the wives and children of Confederate soldiers. 2 other families, The Marshals & Ketchums followed the Fleming family on their journey.
Near Cleburne in Johnson County Texas, the wagon train was crossing the Trinity River. Ezekiel was said to be helping a family across when he was fell in the river and almost drowned. He developed pnemonia and died that night and was buried under a big oak tree on the banks of the Trinity River.
