Over the course of his four decade career, he recorded a long stretch of easygoing hits including "Good Ole Boys Like Me", "Tulsa Time", "It Must Be Love", "She Never Knew Me," "I Wouldn't Want to Live if You Didn't Love Me", and numerous others for 17 Number One songs in all. He began his singing career with the Pozo Seco Singers in the mid-1960s but disbanded the group by the end of the decade to pursue a solo career. Among the nearly thirty studio albums he recorded were 'You're My Best Friend' (1975), 'Portrait' (1979), 'Listen to the Radio' (1982), 'Cafe Carolina' (1984), 'One Good Well' (1989), 'Currents' (1992), 'I Turn the Page' (1998), 'My Heart to You' (2004) and 'Reflections' (2014). In 1978, he won the Academy of Country Music's Record of the Year for "Tulsa Time", and the Country Music Association's Male Vocalist of the Year. In 2010, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
