Major League Baseball Player. For nine seasons (1948 to 1956), he was an outfielder with the Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox and Washington Senators. Born Thomas Everette Wright, he played baseball while attending Shelby High School in North Carolina and following graduation, he was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an amateur free agent. The start of his professional career was delayed while he served in the Pacific Theater with the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He made his Major League debut as a late season call up with the Red Sox on September 15, 1948. In 1950, he saw his playing time increase as he shared right field duties with Al Zarilla, while providing a .318 batting average from off the bench. In 1952, he produced a career-high 50 hits between the St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox. After retiring from baseball, he worked in the textile industry.
