Singer. Member of the legendary Motown musical group The Contours. He joined the group in 1961, a year before the group's signature hit "Do You Love Me", it hit #1 on Billboard's R&B chart and crossed over to #3 on the Hot 100. The group had three other chart hits during 1963 and 1964 with "Shake Sherry," "Can You Do It," and "Can You Jerk Like Me." Members included Billy Hoggs, Joe Billingslea, Hubert Johnson and Sylvester Potts. All original members left Motown in 1964 and Berry Gordy hired a new Contours group. Within a year Potts returned to Motown joining the new Contours. The Contours disbanded in 1968. After Joe Billinslea resurrected the group in the 1970's, he rejoined the group. He continued to sing with The Contours until 2004. He then formed his own group named Upscale, but began performing as The Contours, by now, there is two groups of Contours. After some legal issues using the name The Contours, his group changed their name and was performing as The Contours featuring Sylvester Potts. He was 78 years old.
