Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. He was approximately 28 years old, and a Lance-Corporal in the 84th Regiment (later The York and Lancaster Regiment), British Army during the Indian Mutiny when the following deeds took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 6 October 1857 at Lucknow, India, Lance-Corporal Sinnott went out with two Sergeants and a Private to bring in a Captain who had been mortally wounded while trying to extinguish a fire in the breastwork. They brought in the body under heavy fire and the Lance-Corporal was twice wounded. He had previously repeatedly accompanied the Captain when he was attempting to extinguish the fire. John Sinnott was elected by the regiment for the award of the Victoria Cross, he later achieved the rank of Sergeant.
