Ruth Marquerite Roderick Powell, 95 years of age of Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014 at her residence. She was born March 2, 1919 in Kingmont, Marion County, WV, a daughter of the late Charles L. and Fannie Dillion Roderick.
Her husband, William C. Powell, whom she married November 24, 1940, preceded her in death August 9, 1985. She was also preceded in death by an infant older sister, Mary Jenevie Roderick.
Mrs. Powell was a former resident of Fairmont, WV, a 1938 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and West Virginia Business College. She was employed in Fairmont at G.C. Murphy Company during her later school years after which she became a legal secretary to Attorney William P. Lehman. When her husband returned from World War II and was discharged from the US Air Force, she returned to being a housewife. Sometime later, she became a legal secretary again for the law firm Amos, Boggus and Conaway. She was also employed for some time as a medical secretary to Dr. George Evans.
The funeral service will be celebrated in Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Dr. Ken A. Ramsey presiding. The interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, WV.
