Mary Ann Howell was the seventh of eleven children born to Isaac and Margaret (Tucker) Howell, and the youngest of the three girls. Born in North Carolina on 28 Jan 1822, she was very young when the family moved to Georgia. Her parents, grandparents, and uncles were pioneer settlers of Cobb County. As she grew and matured, so did the county and lands west of the Chattahoochee River.
On 20 Dec 1840, Mary Ann married Rene Marion Pittman. She bore him ten children:

Rene was a farmer and Mary Ann kept house and reared their children. When the war came, she, as so many other women during that difficult time, took on the responsibilities of the farm and kept the family together.
Mary Ann is buried along with her husband, her father, several of her siblings and other extended family. The cemetery was formed with the death and burial of Mary Ann's father, Isaac, in 1860.
