THE BERKSHIRE EAGLE (PITTSFIELD, MASS.) THURSDAY 28 MAY 1998, P. B2:

Dorothy B. Canon, 90, nurse for 41 years
LEE -- Mrs. Dorothy B. Canon, 90, a resident of Berkshire Hills North Nursing Home for the past five years, formerly of 42 Park St., died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Lee on Aug. 28, 1907, daughter of George and Lida Congdon Butler, she attended local schools and later trained to be a practical nurse. She lived in Tyringham in the 1950s.

Mrs. Canon was employed as a practical nurse for over 20 years before the state instituted licenses for the profession. At that time, those who had been working in this field were allowed to take state examinations, and if they passed they were licensed. She was officially licensed in 1959 and worked for 21 more years as a licensed practical nurse, retiring in 1980.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Lee and of its Women's Fellowship. She was a former member of the Tyringham Union Church.

Her husband, Clifford Canon, whom she married in 1954, died in 1959.

She leaves no immediate survivors.
