A Virtual Cemetery created by Linda Crawley Dean

Crawley Cemetery, Orchard Hill, Lamar Co., GA

Francis Marion Crawley, b. 2/28/1937 GA, d. 11/12/1911 GA"Orphaned as a small boy" so he wasn't the son of James Crawley "Raised by his Aunt Sarah" who was the daughter of James and Mahaly, so F.M. could have been James's and Mahaly's grandson. F. M.'s birth parents are unknown."His father left him the home place and a slave" Location of the home place is unknown. "When they were building the railroad, F. M. went with his slave to lay the track" On the June 13, 1860 GA census, he is listed as "Marion", in home of Wm. & Martha Ivey, occupation "track raiser R.R.", with real estate valued at $600. In July 25,1860 GA census, F. M. lived in home of James Crawley, occupation was railroad laborer, and he owned real estate worth $1200, yet James had no real estate. Is that an error or what? Since slaves were considered Property, could the $1200 be the value of a slave?
