I was born in Metairie, Louisiana in 1980.
My paternal family was from Louisiana.
My maternal family was from Arkansas.
I was raised by my maternal grandparents.
I grew-up across three different states;
Arkansas, Louisiana, and West Virginia.
I now call south Alabama home {sweet home}.

โข Heritage Highlights โข
My ancestral ties to the Louisiana Isleรฑos {Canary Islanders} are the surnames Gonzales {Island of Tenerife } & Perez {Agรผimes on the island of Las Palmas}. My father was the 4th generation of his Gonzales line to be born in Louisiana. My most direct ties to the Acadians {French Acadie/Cajuns} come from the surnames Part {Parr} & Melanson via my paternal grandmother. 2% of my DNA is Filipino, from my 3rd great grandfather; Romaldo Delacruz who's wife was an Irish immigrant.
My maternal familial connections to Arkansas (near the MO. state line) are the surnames Felts & Cherry, this side of my family DNA consists of mostly British & Irish ancestry, with a little French & Swiss as well.

๐๐๐My Mother's Memorial ๐๐๐
My maternal grandmother was also my adoptive mother. She would often tell me that I was her "chosen child" and said that although I did not grow beneath her heart, I was forever in it. My adoptive mother did her best for all of her children. May she now finally be at peace. ๐

My biological mother never wanted me, she walked away during my infancy and remained largely absent from my entire life - she made herself a stranger to me of her own free will. I deeply felt the sting of abandonment & feeling unloved by my "real mom". I knew next-to-nothing about my paternal family. I am thankful for the love that I received from my adoptive parents, but I am saddened they were not able to be grandparents to me. No one ever openly acknowledged the experience from my perspective - I was expected to be grateful for the life that I was given. As an adult, I've taken back MY story. I was also fortunate to finally get to meet my biological father in April 2023... Like all of us, he is a person with flaws, but he is also a kind person, and he was so thrilled to get to know me.
All children deserve a loving mother, but not all children get that lucky. Remember, when a person shows you who they are, believe them... Actions truly do speak louder than words, all you have to do is look/listen. The writing is on the wall. An apology is not merely words spoken - a true apology is a positive change made through actions.
To other kinship adoptees and/or abandoned children;
my inbox is always open, if you need to talk to someone who understands.
