Bio

I grew up in the tiny village of Booneville, IA, attended a one room school house in Booneville, IA, and graduated from Van Meter High School. Then attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA. Married Larry W. Mark and became the mother of 3 sons and 1 daughter. School Nurse at Van Meter Community School was one of my titles. Our family moved to Creston, IA in 1975, where all of our children attended school and graduated.
Just recently became interested in genealogy and this has brought me appreciation and respect for family values and contributions to strong communities.
family names-Hougham-Macy-Jungman-Marquardt
I am a direct descendant of Harmon Cook, my great great grandfather and father to Rosa Ellen Cook Macy. He was a unique and remarkable character known as a beloved Civil War comrade from Company C, 46th IA Infantry who aided John Brown's 'underground railway' helping the fleeing slaves. Also remembered as a prominent figure and leading temperance worker in IA. He was a Quaker minister.
Hougham, my maiden name, can be traced back many generations. Michael Hougham was born 1540 in Ash, England. The Hougham's came to America in the early 1700's settling in Butler County, OH. Matz Jungman my maternal grandfather arrived in America at age 4 with his parents and siblings. He was born in Saarland, Germany in 1879.
Would appreciate hearing from other relatives/descendants to increase my knowledge of history and mutual relatives.
