Barbara was a unique individual and deserves one of a kind obituary.

As a young sailor I first met her while she was working at a local restaurant. She was lovely, friendly and surprisingly enough a reasonable good waitress. Although I spoke a very limited amount of English, I soon found out that her name was Barbara Ann Logan, born in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of William Thomas and Adelaide Strickland Logan. She was the fourth of six siblings.
She departed this world surrounded by the family she so willingly had devoted her life in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The Logan's had moved to Williamsburg in 1951, and Barbara attended the old convent school on College Terrace before the new Walsingham Academy in Jamestown Road was ready. She moved to James Blair and graduated as part of the Class of 1958.

Although local sailors would stop at the C & L restaurant hoping to talk her into going out on a date, she had found her one and only true love in Norman Thomas, and soon the two eloped to North Carolina and got married in January 1960. Their love was rewarded with two fine sons.

She was a great "matchmaker", although her methods of choosing may be questionable. Barbara was having a bad day at the restaurant one evening and was so annoyed with this customer causing her to shout "I should set you up on a date with my sister" whom she was mad at. Yes, that is how I joined this family.

Barbara also worked for Roses 5 & 10 while going to school. Later she went to work for F.W. Woolworth, and she retired from there in 1986.

Through the years, she and Norman made numerous trips to Nags Head, North Carolina, and these trips made her an enthusiastic lighthouse collector. She was proud to climb to the top of several lighthouses and most especially the Hatteras Lighthouse before and after it was moved.

An avid cross word puzzler, she also treasured luncheons with friends and the membership in the local chapter of the Red Hat Society, becoming the Vice Queen of Williamsburg Foxy Red Hatters.
She also enjoyed going to Texas and visiting her sister and family, and the many small trips that they took together.

For those that knew Barbara well, it is no surprise that she spent her life supporting her husband's every endeavor, and loving and caring for her children and their families. Weaving her heartfelt love and devotion into all she did, we were all blessed to have her in our lives.

Barbara was a member of St. Bede's Catholic Church and in 2004 she and Norman renew their vows at the old St. Bede's church on the campus of Williams and Mary, the same chapel where her sisters Kathy and Patricia were married.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents; sisters, Mary Margaret Logan, Adelaide Agnes Logan Hough, and Kathleen Frances Logan Mutsch.

Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memories, she is survived by her husband Norman of the home; sons Norman William and his wife Marsha Thomas, and Robert "Pete" Thomas of Williamsburg; sister Patricia Strickland (Logan) and her husband Tony Held of Sherman, Texas; brother William Francis Logan of Tampa, Florida; sister-in-law, Linda (Thomas) Jones and husband, Tom of Norfolk, Virginia; brother-in-law, Conrad Thomas of Williamsburg; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be given to Sentara Home Care & Hospice, 200 Enterprise Drive, Newport News, Virginia 23603 or your favorite charity.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Nelsen Funeral Home.
