Ronald L. BABER, 81, of 705 E. Fourth St., Rochester, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at his residence.
Born on Jan. 8, 1924, in Macy, he was the son of Roscoe C. and Golda F. (Heckathorn) Baber. On Sept. 6, 1944, in Macy, he married Nilah G. Edwards. She preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 2005.
Mr. Baber retired from civil service, having been the heating supervisor at Grissom Air Force Base in Bunker Hill. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Baber was a member of the Macy Lincoln Lodge No. 523 F&AM; Mizpah Shriner's, Fort Wayne; Scottish Rite, Fort Wayne; American Legion; Destroyer Escort Historical Foundation; and Grace United Methodist Church, Rochester. His hobbies included fishing, golf, playing euchre, being with his family and his dog, Bunky.
Survivors include his son, Rick L. and wife Teresa Baber, Rochester; daughters, Barbara and husband Edward Brown, Kokomo, Carol and husband David Damron, Rochester; grandchildren, Ron and wife Cheryl Baber, Lafayette, Paul and wife Dawn Baber, Virginia Beach, Va., Kyle and wife Megan Damron, Somerset, Ky., Seth Brown, Kokomo; five great-grandchildren; brother, Richard and Mary LaVerne Baber, Mexico; sisters, Imogene and husband Ed Wilson, Rochester, and Betty Jo Benedict, Kokomo; stepbrother, Richard and wife Joyce Briggs, Macy; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and his mother, Golda F. Briggs, in 2000.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Rick Taylor officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to the service. Masonic services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home by the Macy Lincoln Lodge No. 523 F&AM. Burial will be at a later date at the Plainview Cemetery, Macy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church or to the Lincoln Lodge No. 523 F&AM.
