Barbara Ann Doss was born on June 2nd, 1933 to Vera Mae Crawford and Felix Martin Doss.

On the day Barbara was born, Katherine Elizabeth Doss went to school. About half way through the school day, she got the feeling that something wasn't quite right and went home.

She returned home to find her mother, Vera Mae, hemorrhaging on the floor.

Katherine, immediately aided Vera Mae and rushed to tell her daddy what was going on and hollered for the doctor to come.

A few months prior, Vera Mae had been riding a horse and started to have really bad pains, so she and her husband Felix went to see a doctor.

This doctor used several instruments on Vera that he should not have used and sent her home. He also failed to inform Vera that she was with child.

It was this same doctor that performed Barbara's delivery.

Barbara was born premature at only seven months. She weighed so little and because back then they did not have the advanced technology that we do now, the doctor set her aside, fully expecting her to die as a premature baby.

Katherine, seeing this, took Barbara and kept her as warm as she could. She heated some bricks in their oven and made a makeshift incubator of sorts and kept Barbara alive.

Vera Mae, despite the hemorrhaging, survived the delivery and lived for another 33 years.

Felix was enraged, of course, and gave that doctor a few verses and then some. That was when the doctor acknowledged what he had done and more still that he had known full well that Vera was pregnant and that he had failed to inform her.

Because of his mistakes and to avoid a lawsuit, the doctor did not charge a fee for delivering Barbara.

Barbara survived and thus began her journey in life, the youngest child born to Vera Mae and Felix Doss and the beloved baby of the family.

She had three siblings Katherine Elizabeth Doss, Martha Jolene Doss and Robert Felix Doss.

She was married to Ronald "Ronnie" Ward.

She passed away on February 19th 2002 in Arkansas, loved by all who knew her.

Her birth certificate exists and can be viewed here.
