Vera Mae Crawford was born on August 15th of 1900 in Grayson County, Texas.

She met Felix Martin Doss and family legend has it that the pair laid eyes on each other during a buggy ride to church and fell in love at first sight. It was a whirlwind romance and the couple was married a short time later on January 7th, 1918 in Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas.

The couple gave birth to three daughters and one son.

Vera Mae appears on the 1940, Amarillo, Potter County, Texas Census with her husband, Felix and three of their children, Jolene, Robert and Barbara.

She was a loving mother and housewife, who did her best to care for her children as they grew up during the Great Depression.

Vera at one point had developed a smoking habit and upon quitting, she decided to buy herself diamonds and furs instead from then on, as evidenced in this photograph.

She passed away on May 21st, 1966 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas.
