HAVEN - Mary W. Royer, 97, passed away Oct. 10, 2012, at Haven House, Haven. She was born May 20, 1915, in Haven, the daughter of Oliver P. and Rose Astle Gilmore. She was born and raised in Haven, where she spent a majority of her life.
She graduated from Pittsburg State in 1936. She had lived in Lawrence, Kan., from 1959 to 1982 where she worked as a KU Librarian. She was a member of the Haven United Methodist Church and in multiple bridge groups.
On April 20, 1934, she married Lawrence A. Royer in Bentonville, Ark. He passed away Sept. 4, 1991.
She is survived by a son, Bill and wife Leta of Haven; a daughter, Lyn Royer Smith and husband Conway of Newport News, Va.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Oliver and Rose Gilmore; two sisters, Lurline Haines, Pauline Gilmore Miller; a brother, William Gilmore; a daughter, JoAnn Royer Nyhoff.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Ott Funeral Home, Haven. Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the Haven United Methodist Church with Reverend Sharlan Graber officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Cemetery, Haven. Memorials may be given to the Haven United Methodist Church, in care of Ott Funeral Home, 102 N. Wichita, Haven, KS 67543.
