He was the first husband of Almira Daniels [1832-March 20, 1921], married March 1850 at Bozrah, Connecticut. She later married Henry G. Reynolds, moved first to Rhode Island and later on to Los Angeles.
In civilian life he was a carpenter.

"The Norwich Memorial: The Annals of Norwich, New London County, Connecticut...", page 251 provides his death as occurring at Philadelphia, aged37, (surname spelled "Chappell").
