Luella M. Stevenson, 96, of Penney Farms, Florida, formerly of Fort Wayne, Indiana died peacefully on Friday, January 28 in Florida. Born in Fort Wayne on November 17, 1914, she was the daughter of Ed and Clara Scherer Meyer, of Fort Wayne.
She was a housewife who lovingly raised four children: David Stevenson, of Poughkeepsie, NY., Kenneth Stevenson, of Fort Wayne, Warren Stevenson, of Starke, FL, and Jean Dobson, of Rhinebeck, NY, all of whom survive her. Other survivors include 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She and her family lived in Fort Wayne until they moved to Naples, FL, in 1959, Miami, FL, in 1961, and Gainesville, FL in 1968. She returned to live in Fort Wayne in 1997, and moved back to Florida in 2005. Her hobbies were making ceramic plaques, teaching ceramics, stained glass art, and growing African violets. She loved to sing while playing her ukulele, and she instilled in her children and grandchildren a deep love and appreciation of music and the arts. She was very active at the Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, and at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Stevenson, in 1980, and her second husband, Wayne Cruikshank, in 1997.
A memorial service and burial will be at Penney Farms at a later date. Preferred memorials are to Penney Farms Retirement Community, Lu Stevenson Memorial, PO Box 555, Penney Farms, FL, 32079.
