Internment was made in IOOF cemetery. The grave was covered with floral tributes, lovely and profuse.
The death of Mrs. Shewmaker Tuesday morning in the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, was a distinct shock to the town, although pneumonia made a rapid advance, once it was lodged in her system and her condition was considered apprehensive on the day she left her home for the hospital. Later in the week, her husband was summoned and remained at her bedside until the end came.
Bereaved by her passing are the husband, C. C. Shewmaker, of Norris City, and one son Hubert Cain, Monterey, Calif. Two sons, one in childhood and Cecil Cain, preceded her in death. There are three brothers, Minuard Hanold of Danville, Raymond of Milwaukee, Oregon and Arva of Maunie, three sisters, Mrs Gertie Stephan of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Mrs Oleva Brothers of Osceola, Indiana, Mrs. Hans Anderson of Clearwater, Nebraska, two grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Kind hearted and sympathetic, she was a helpful neighbor in sickness and necessity. Deft and tactful, she bestowed favors without ostentation, but many recall her timely assistance, so freely given.
Adept with the needle, in the latter years of her life, she was privileged to give her full sway to inherent instinct for creative art. She made beautiful and dainty gifts, often for children and young girls; even the most practical, in design and decoration, carried the touch of an artist.
She was a devoted and helpful wife and Mr. Shewmaker has the sympathy of the entire community in his bereavement. In token of this sentiment, business houses were closed during the funeral hour.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Cain of Monterey, California, Mr. and Mrs. Arva Hanold and son, of Maunie; Mr and Mrs. George Stephan of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Minuard Hanold of Danville, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stephan and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stephan of Carmi, Mr. and Mrs. Luke Hanold of Carrier Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Shewmaker and Mr. and Mrs. Landis Rister of Ridgway, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Tysdal of St. Louis, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Meler and son, Jerry, of Carrier Mills.
