Bernice graduated from Marshall High School in Marshall, Texas and Southwest Business College in Houston, Texas and attended South Texas Junior College in Houston. While Bernice was an avid Oiler and Texan football fan, in her heart, Bernice was an Aggie along with her husband, Jim.
She and Jim were married in 1970 after a six-month courtship and lived in northwest Houston since 1971 except for 1992-93 when they lived in Kuwait while Jim was with Arthur Andersen & Co. They loved each other dearly, were best friends and companions and enjoyed traveling and cruising. Bernice belonged to the Bible Study Fellowship for many years and took special joy in taking her granddaughter Grace with her to BSF for three of those years. She also belonged to The Champions Golf Club and several ladies mahjongg and porker groups, and, previously, Reveneaux Country Club where she played golf and on numerous tennis leagues. Bernice also worked for the last nine years at SteinMart in the Ladies' Boutique.
Most of all, Bernice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend—she made life wonderful.
The family wants to thank Bernice's care givers during her illness, including Jim's sisters Diana Tucker of Tennessee and Mary Beth Jameson of Dallas, as well all the nurses and personal care assistants of Dunn Tower 8th Floor East at The Methodist Hospital in The Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bernice's name to Bible Study Fellowship International, 19001 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, TX 78258 or www.bsfinternational.org or Northwest Assistance Ministries, 15555 Kuykendahl Rd., Houston, TX 77090 or www.namonline.org.
