Chevillette Elizabeth Marvin Linder, of Walterboro, passed away peacefully, August 6, 2012, after an extended illness.

Ms. Linder was born in March 1928 and raised in Whitehall, SC.

She graduated from Walterboro High School and Coker College.

Chevillette taught English and literature for a span of over three decades before retiring from the former John C. Calhoun Academy.

Ms. Linder was a member of St. Judes Episcopal Church, and very active in the Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society, the Aphrodite Fine Arts Club and The Low Country Pony Club.

She was one of three children born to the late James Poyas and Emmeline Stroble Marvin and is survived by her sister, Ms. Emmeline June Marvin Erwin of Walterboro. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. William Walter and Sydney Walker Haynes and son Poyas Marvin Haynes of Walterboro, her daughters and sons-in-law, Emily Haynes and John Hancock Lafitte, and Katherine Haynes and Marion Rast Campbell II of Columbia, SC, and Chevillette Elizabeth and David Scott Winchip of Plymouth, MI; she is also survived by her step-daughter Edith Ann Reed of Ridgeland, SC, her step-son, Richard Edwin Linder of Charleston, SC, her niece, Annie Poyas Erwin Hamlin of Charleston, SC, and her nephew, Luke Latimer Erwin III, of Whitehall, SC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Allyson Haynes Stuart, Kathryn Poyas Haynes, Georgia Carlisle Haynes, Emmeline Poyas Lafitte, Elizabeth Eps Lafitte, David Christopher Winchip, Liam Ellsworth Winchip, Marion Rast Campbell III, and her great grandson, Jackson Keith Strickland. She is also survived by her devoted friend of eighty years, Mrs. Betty Padgett Black of Walterboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Ellsworth Linder, to whom she was married for twenty-four years, her brother, James Poyas Marvin, Jr., and her grandson, William Walter Haynes III.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside memorial service, August 9, 2012, at 11am at Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro.
