OBITUARY OF GEORGE W. TAYLOR
Huntsville Democrat
May 25, 1843
Another Revolutionary Hero Gone
DIED: In this county, about three weeks ago, after a lingering illness, Major George Taylor, in the 84th year of his age. Major Taylor was born in Virginia, where he grew to manhood and lived during the stormy period of the revolution. In that trying struggle, he took an early and active part, on the side of liberty and independence of his country. He remained in his native state some years after the close of the war, then removed to Tennessee, where he resided till he moved to Alabama. Major Taylor lived in this county the last twenty-five or twenty-six years of his life, universally repected by those who knew him. He always maintained the character of an honest, upright citizen, a sound patriot, and an independent democratic republican. He left an aged and venerable widow, and many descendents to lament his death, and numerous friends to deplore the loss of his counsel and friendship. We should have noticed the death of our venerable friend at an earlier day, but hope, that some one more intimately acquainted with his history, would have furnished a more extensive biographical sketch. And we yet hope that this will be done for the gratification of Major Taylor's friends, here and elsewhere.
