Mrs. Ruth Baker Taft
Ruth Baker was born at Sturgis Prairie, Michigan, February 25, 1840, and departed this life at Rosston, Oklahoma, July 11, 1931, aged 91 years 4 months and 16 days.
She was born of sturdy American pioneer stock and during her life she followed the vanguard of settlement westward, spending the declining years of her life in the new state of Oklahoma.
On the 12th day of June, 1867, she was united in marriage with Charles W. Taft, a veteran of the Civil War. To this union were born six children. One daughter, Mrs. Geo. Strong, and two sons, Mort Taft and George Taft, preceed her in death, while the three who are still living, Mrs. Oscar D. Smith, Mrs. John Lake and Oscar Taft, were with her when death called her.
Her husband passed to his reward in the year of 1908, and during the years of her widowhood she lived in the community of Rosston. By her patience and beauty of character she endeared herself to the hearts of her neighbors and friends, and she was loved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Taft was converted at an early age, and became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in which faith she remained steadfast during her long and useful life.
During the last five years, when the sands were running low in the hour glass of life, she was cared for by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lillie Taft, who was her constant attendant and companion.
The whole community mourns the passing of Grandma Taft, as she was affectionately know by all. She was a faithful wife, and a loving mother whose children "arise and call her blessed".
She leaves to mourn her passing, 3 children, 2 (12) grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a host of faithful friends.
The funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the M.E. Church in Rosston, Rev. G. B. Baker officiating, and burial was in Pleasant (Ridge) Cemetery northeast of Rosston.
