Death of an Old Settler of Havana Township
Funeral Services Held Sunday

Mrs. Meta Katherine Abbe, an old resident of Havana township, died Thursday morning, Dec. 17, 1903, at the home of her son-in-law, Henry Wilker, from the effects of dropsy. The funeral services were held from German Lutheran cemetery near this church in this city on Sunday, Rev. F. W. Klein officiating. They were attended by a large number of the old friends and neighbors of the deceased.

Mrs. Abbe was born June 6, 1833, at Oldenburg, Germany, and came to America in 1872. She was the widow of William Henry Abbe, with whom she lived forty-one years. There were seven children born of this marriage, two of whom are living. These are Mrs. Henrietta Abbe and Mrs. Helena Wilker.

The remains were deposited in the German Lutheran cemetery near this city.

Mrs. Meta Katherine Abbe died last Thursday mornng at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Wilker, in Havana Township where she has made her home for several years past. Death was due to heart trouble which caused complications.

Deceased was born in Germany on the sixth day of June 1833, and spent her youth in that country. In 1862 she was married to Mr. Abbe who together with two children, Mrs. Louis Wilker, and Mrs. Abbe, both of this county, survive her. Mr. and Mrs. Abbe moved to this country in 1876 coming direct to Meriden this county, where they lived until a few years ago when they went to Havana to make their home with their daughter. Mrs. Abbe was a kind and loving woman and won the respect of all who knew her.
Her life was one of many kindly deeds and her death is a matter of sincere regret among a large number of friends.
The funeral was held from the Wilker residence in Havana at ten o'clock Sunday morning and services in the German Lutheran church in this city took place an hour later. Rev. F. W. Klein officiated. Interment was made in the German Lutheran cemetery on Mineral Springs avenue.
