DO NOT ADD A MIDDLE NAME FOR THIS MAN THERE IS NO PROOF OF ANY MIDDLE NAME.

If you are related or researching this family, and would like to share information or photos, I'd like to hear from you. Samuel Jackson was my husband's 3rd Great-Grandfather.

Thanks to Shirley Bray for the transfer of this memorial. originally created by Cathy Moreland.

This Samuel Jackson was the son of Ann Beales and Rev. Jacob Jackson, Quaker. Ann Beales or Beals was the daughter of Sarah Ann Cook & Bowater Beals. These people were Quakers and you can do a search on the web for their names and locate more information.

Samuel's father, Rev. Jacob Jackson died November 1844 Clinton County, Ohio after he had reached his ninety-sixth year. He was honored by the Friends' Yearly Meeting when they all paid tribute to his memory.

It is my presumption, at this time, that the Starr brothers Lydia & Sarah married, had a Quaker background themselves since the Jacksons were Quakers. Caleb Starr did marry an Indian woman but he was not a brother nor closely related to these two Starr brothers.

PLEASE NOTE: I FIND NO PROOF THAT JOSHUA MOSES JACKSON WAS THE SON OF SAMUEL JACKSON and his wife, NO PROOF WHAT-SO-EVER.

NOTE: As of November 2013, there are several ancestry trees with Joshua M. Jackson listed as a son of Mary Ashley and William Jackson. William Jackson's parents were Ann Richardson and Isaac Jackson Jr. Isaac died 1821 Amite County, Mississippi. Isaac married (2nd) Elizabeth Durham. See Find A Grave Memorial# 95255590 for Isaac Jackson.

1) The family shown in the 1850 Harrison County, Texas that is claimed by several to have been Joshua Moses and Lydia Margaret (O'Neal) Jackson only shows initials and no actual names. If you will view the actual census page, you will see there are two other Jackson families born in either South or North Carolina, and either of these could have been family members of Joshua's. Even if this had been Joshua Moses Jackson, this does not prove he was a son of Samuel Jackson. There were several other Jackson families on the same census page from the same previous area.

2) And MOST IMPORTANTLY, Ester & Samuel Jackson were residing in Ohio, from early history books, they state: "Samuel Jackson had emigrated from Tennessee in the year 1800, and settled in the eastern part of what is now Highland County, Ohio". (read more below)

3) MY POINT is: If Joshua was born in South Carolina, Ester & Samuel Jackson were residing in Ohio during the period of Joshua's supposed date of birth. NO PROOF Joshua is the son of Ester & Samuel Jackson.

I have been searching the internet and Ancestry for any records or information to aid in the research and discovery of parents for Samuel Jackson.

(Earlier in 2013) Judging from the names of daughters of Ann Beals and Jacob Jackson of New Garden, Guilford County, North Carolina, I am seriously thinking, they are his parents. They did have a son named Samuel but the date of birth shown is August 1778. Really not far off from the census dates for his age and not certain where even that date comes from.

WHERE does the 1765 date of birth come from?

Where does the date of birth of 1778 come from?

Ann and Jacob named daughters Lydia, Rachel, Ann, Ruth & Mary. Ann Beals Mother was named Sarah. Compare list of children's names below. There may have been more children than these but not proven yet either.

~ Children of Samuel and Ester (?Hart?) Jackson ~
Lydia Jackson married William Starr
Rachel Jackson m. Garrett Newman
Isom Jackson may have been a son
John Jackson m. Mary Winchester
Sarah Jackson m. Richard Starr
Cornelius Moses Jackson m. Hannah Martin & Martha Brewer.
Nancy Ann Jackson m. George B. Medlin

Originally the date of birth for Samuel was shown here as 1765 and many have copied that date but after looking at the three available censuses for Sam, I am changing his date of birth to c1776. The possible father of Wiliam and Richard Starr was born about 1760, in the same time range for John Starr and Samuel Jackson to have been friends and partners in their hunting and trading excursions.

Below I will add the census information and any viewer here may see for themselves why I have done so. The 1830, 1850 and 1860 census are sure bets as he was living with a son Cornelious Moses Jackson in 1850, and in 1860 census, with his daughter Lydia Starr, and her son J. A. Starr and his family. The 1830 Henderson County, Tenn. census, William Starr and Richard Starr families are the two lines on the census page above name of Samuel Jackson.

"Several years after the first settlements at Saltillo (Tennessee) a company of hunters and trappers by the name of Stars and Jacksons settled the region between Middleton's and Hurricane Creeks. This company first came here from Ohio, and spent several years hunting and trapping for the beaver on White Oak Creek; they finally returned, sold their lands in that State, and moved with their families to this part of Hardin County".

~ ~ "The first cabin built in the township was on the farm now owned by John Holaday, by Samuel Jackson, about the year 1812. He (Samuel) had emigrated from Tennessee in the year 1800, and settled in the eastern part of what is now Highland County, on Rocky Fork. His principal occupation was hunting, and during one year (1801) he killed two panthers and a large number of deer and bears. His hunting grounds were the Brush Creek and Sun Fish hills. About the year 1818, he removed to the southwestern part of the township, and there settled on lands now owned by Alfred Daugherty and known as the Lyons farm. He soon after moved to Tennessee, and from Tennessee to Cass County, Texas, where he was living at the beginning of the late civil war, since which time the writer has been unable to learn anything from him". ~ Pg. 227: Samuel Jackson and his brothers [?] Jacob and John, Quakers from North Carolina, settled on Rocky Fort as early as 1801. They were the sons of Samuel Jackson, Sr, native of Ireland. Samuel Jackson the immigrant was a direct descendant of Ralph Jackson who was burned at the stake, as a martyr, in Stratford, England in 1556. The brothers remained in a crude log cabin for a few years after their arrival. They were all good hunters who had served as Indian spies. They made enough money or equivalent to live by selling pelts. [The above paragraph mentions settling in the eastern part of what is now Highland County, on Rocky Fork'. The names seem of the wrong generation between the two book sources (written later of course) but they both mention Rocky Fork.

Cornelius Moses Jackson, son of Ester (?Hart?) and Sam Jackson was buried in same cemetery as father Samuel Jackson see www.findagrave.com memorial 9177727

NOTE: I have never seen the name or found the name of Joshua Moses Jackson in any of the Samuel Jackson research. Joshua Moses was born 1810 in South Carolina. Samuel Jackson resided in Ohio with his wife and family by 1810. At the time of Joshua's death, Samuel Jackson was residing in Upshur and Harrison County, Texas which are connected, Joshua was in Brown County, Texas which is almost in the middle of the state of Texas. Joshua does seem to have followed the same path as Samuel but I still do not find any link to prove Joshua was a son of Ester and Samuel Jackson. Perhaps Joshua was a nephew?

Son: Cornelius Moses Jackson [Son of Samuel Jackson]

Grandson: John Isom Jackson [Son of Isom Jackson)
