Carl Tiedge, 60, of 18925 Apache Drive, died at 8:17 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was vice president in charge of human resources and development for Preston Trucking. He had been in trucking for 40 years. He was born on July 28, 1919, in Chesterton, and had lived in South Bend most of his life.

On February 2, 1939, in South Bend he married Helen Greene, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Janet Hagedorn of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Tonda Longenecker of Lewisville, Texas; a son, Robert, of South Bend, six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Sprenkel of Wiemar, Calif., Mrs. Ruth Waltz of Lyle, Wash., and Mrs. Mildred Ruggeri of Carson City, Nev., and two brothers, Louis A. of South Bend and Frederick of Mishawaka.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Charles Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Portage lodge 675, Free & Accepted Masons, South Bend Transportation Club, Delta Nu Alpha Trucking Fraternity and T.O.C. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the Marines, and a member of A.A.S.R. of South Bend, the A.A.R.P., the Northern Indiana Motor Carriers Association and the American Trucking Historical Society.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.
