William Absher

BENTON - William Absher "Hard Head", 64, went to be with the Lord at 6:13 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010.

Mr. Absher was born Jan. 10, 1946 in Logan, the son of Troy Absher and Aline (Kirkman) Absher.

He married the former Lisa D. Kelley on Oct. 9, 1973, and she survives.

Bill was a retired coal miner, member of the UMWA and worked for 30 years at Old Ben 26 in Sesser and five years at Ziegler 11 in Coulterville. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from March 10, 1966, to March 7, 1969, and received the Purple Heart medal. He was a member of Church of God, loved to fish, hunt, garden, tell jokes and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and Benton Ranger fan. Bill especially enjoyed spending time outside at his daughter Kelley's home around the swimming pool.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Lisa D. Absher ; one son, Tad Absher ; two daughters, Kelley Bullock and husband, Trevor and Ashley Absher ; one granddaughter, Brooke Bullock; two brothers, Bob Absher and Keith Absher ; an aunt, Gertie Eickelman; an uncle, Bill Kirkman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Absher was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sherry Jackson.

Services will be at noon Wednesday, June 23, 2010, in Logan Church of God, with Pastors Bill Perry and Larry Bullock, and special friend, Rocky Morris, officiating. Entombment will be in Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, with military rites by Benton American Legion and VFW.
