HARRISBURG - Brad Absher, 40, died unexpectedly at 9:58 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, in Harrisburg Medical Center.

Brad was born May 2, 1966, in Harrisburg, to Bob and Linda (Powell) Absher.

On Sept. 24, 1994, he married the former Michelle Yeo.

He was working on a special education degree from Eastern Illinois University, and was a semester away from achieving his goal.

He was a member of Stonefort Missionary Baptist Church.

Brad was a standout athlete and received numerous honors while a student at Harrisburg High School, graduating in 1984. He was named All South 7 Conference in Baseball, most valuable player his senior years as well as being named to the All State team, and was named the Southern Illinoisan Player of the Year. He held the home run record at HHS for more than 20 years. He received a baseball scholarship to Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He coached baseball at the Bedford-North Lawrence High School while living in Bedford, Ind. In addition to baseball, Brad was also an All Conference football player.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle, and their children, Zachary and Cassidy; parents, Bob and Linda Absher of Harrisburg; brother and sister-in-law, Bryan and Myra Absher of Bedford, Ind.; sister, Leslee Duncan of Marion; special niece and nephews, Conner and Austin Absher and Jay Duncan; paternal grandmother, Marcella Absher of Carrier Mills; aunt, Kathie Powell of Stonefort; uncles and aunts, Rex and Cosetta of Ohio and Don of Carrier Mills.

Per his wishes, he was cremated, and a memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Davenport Gymnasium at Harrisburg High School. Coaches and friends will give the eulogies. Private family burial will be in Zion Cemetery in Ozark at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a trust fund for Zachary and Cassidy. The fund has been established at the Old National Bank in Harrisburg.

Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is in charge of arrangements.
