John Harvey Joyce, 87, of 31 MacArthur Drive, Collinsville, died Friday, May 18, 2012, at his home.

He was born April 11, 1925, in Collinsville to Mattie Morris Joyce and John William Joyce. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Helen Gilbert, Belvey Trottman, Marion Via and Lillian Johnson; and two brothers, James William Joyce and Eugene Blanton Joyce.

Joyce owned and operated the J. H. Joyce Saw Mill & Logging Co. He served with the Navy during World War II, and he was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Lawson Joyce of Eden, N.C.; four daughters, Gail Joyce Smith of Naples, Fla., Vickie Joyce Pauley of Richmond, Joan Joyce Turner of Patrick County and June Joyce Martin of Kernersville, N.C.; two sons, John "Steve" Joyce of Collinsville and Roger W. Joyce of Franklin County; 12 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 11 great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville with Pastor Harry "Peanut" Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park with military rites.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
