Excerpt -- from the Grafton Sentinel -- The body of Ezekiel Lanham arrived here Tuesday evening from the Philippine Islands, and on Wednesday was interred in the National Cemetery on the west side of this city. The deceased was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Zadock Lanham of near Independence, Preston County, and at the time of death was serving as a Lance Corporal in Troop K of the First U.S.A. Cavalry. He died in the First Reserve Hospital, Philippine Islands, on December 15th last, and as a troop ship was scheduled to leave at an early date thereafter the body was embalmed and forwarded home. The entire expense of shipment and burial was paid by the U.S. Government. (Note: the name and date of death in this obit appear to be incorrect; military papers indicate his DOD was Dec. 19.)
