Dorothy A. Murphy was called to eternal rest on Thursday, May 10, 2012, in the Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg. Her life began on July 27, 1956, the daughter of Margie B. Penny and the late William Penny Sr., in North Carolina.

Dorothy was a longtime resident of Williamsburg and was educated in the Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools. She was a member of the first graduating class of Lafayette High School. She was employed by Eastern State Hospital; retiring with 32 years of dedicated service. After retiring, she was employed by Aramark Food Corp. at the College of William & Mary. She was a loving and kind person who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted and loving husband, her son and daughter-in-law, her mother, her sister, her three brothers and sisters-in-law, her step-daughter, her two step-sons, her three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; her godson, her nieces and nephews, and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.

A funeral service, celebrating the life she lived, was held at noon on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in Whiting's Chapel with the Rev. Morris Randall officiating. Interment was at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Professional service entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg, Va., 757-229-3011.
