Executive Director 1948-1983 of the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA). Spokesman for the funeral industry particularly during the years when Jessica Mitford's book 'The American Way of Death' came out. They debated many times. He was dedicated to promoting the cause of funeral service to the public, and through the NFDA spoke before countless audiences, including funeral directors, mortuary science students, manufacturers and suppliers of funeral merchandise and at various symposia on dying, death and bereavement. He traveled to every state in the Union except Alaska, and to Canada, Paris and South Africa, delivering the positive message of funeral service. Although he did not live to see funeral service in the next millennium, the profession will forever wear the indelible stamp of his influence, and funeral service is forever indebted to the tireless efforts and ceaseless devotion of this patriarch and most ardent statesman.
