Boyd was retired from the Mount Holly post office. He was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a member of Naval Task Force 58, which led the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was a charter member of the Mount Holly Life Saving Crew and was a member of various hunting clubs. He loved to hunt and always looked forward to hunting trips to Colorado with a group to hunt elk and deer.
Interment in Hillcrest Gardens.
